Day 2 After Retrieval

Normally I would have posted yesterday about everything  since it was day one but with a work engagement and my Thursday night class, I was pooped.  Got home at 8:30pm, immediately had to get shot in the arse with progesterone, and by 9pm the lights were out and I was gone to Mr. Sandman.  Now,  I still got up 100 different times to pee during the night, each one painful as the ovaries settled down into a new position quickly but tired none the less.

DAY 1 updates: out of the 14 mature eggs that went through the  ICSI process,  5 fertilized.

I really should not have checked that email at work.   I cried for my 9 non fertilized eggs and struggled through the next hour until I got a hold of my co-worker who has gone through the IVF process 2 times, both resulting in bouncing babies.  Thank goodness for her blunt personality.  She was helpful in calming me down and letting me know that 5 on day 1 is very good, especially with male factor.

Because of the male factor the hubster and I have been toying around with the idea of getting the little embryos genetically tested to make sure nothing is abnormally wrong.  (Turner’s syndrome, XXY, Too many chromosomes EX: 96 instead of a healthy 48 etc..) but after talking with my IVF coordinator that the testing is NOT covered,  I was in a bit of a quandary,  but as my dear friend said “Not to sound morbid, but if something is wrong you will miscarriage, and that doesn’t cost you thousands of dollars.”     Sometimes in the hormone induced haze you need your friends, to set you strait.

So here is to my 5 remaining fertilized eggs,   Grow grow grow into embryos!!
